The move underscores the growth Groove Addicts has been recently experiencing and its optimism for a surge in entertainment, advertising and radio/TV image work in the months and years ahead.
"The facility is designed to accommodate our current needs and our projected future needs-in every detail we chose the best available technology," said Groove Addicts president Dain Blair. "It is designed to be acoustically perfect and to inspire creativity."
"They have built the coolest studios and the coolest environment in town," echoed Groove Addicts client Ira Antelis, Vice President of Music at Leo Burnett, Chicago.
Groove Addicts' recent credit list includes an Imax spot for Honda and Rubin Postaer and Associates, Santa Monica, with music by Danny Elfman. The company also provided music for a several Honda spots via Muse Cordero Chen & Partners, Los Angeles. In another project involving Elfman, Groove Addicts is currently producing music for a package of spots promoting Disney theme parks (Leo Burnett, Chicago)

Other credits include Gatorade for Element 79 Partners, Chicago, Kellogg's for Leo Burnett, Chicago, Burger King for Campbell, Mithun, Esty, Minneapolis and a Holiday campaign for the Hallmark Channel. Additionally, The company is creating the sound design and doing all audio post for Kaena, The Prophecy, a 3D-CGI feature film from Studio Canal and starring Kirsten Dunst, Angelica Huston, Richard Harris and Keith David due out the first quarter of 2003.
The centerpiece of the new facility is its Studio A, a live recording room with a floating floor and supplemented by a series of isolation booths. The room is large enough to accommodate a small orchestra.
The adjacent control room is 5.1 capable, set up for either live recording or audio post production work and powered by the new Yamaha DM 2000 Digital mixing console and the new 192K Digidesign Pro Tools|HD digital audio workstation. The control room also features a 50-inch Pioneer plasma screen monitor for audio post work and twin 22-inch Apple Cinema Displays to support the ProTools system. The room's sleek control and producer's desk were designed and built by AKA, London.
"Acoustically the control room is as near to perfection as is humanly possible," said Groove Addicts Chief Engineer Gerhard Joost. "Our chief aim was to provide consistent acoustics throughout the room so that everyone, the engineer, the producer and clients, hear the same sound and can therefore make intelligent creative decisions."

In a departure from conventional studio design, the control room occupies a position perpendicular to the recording room. "We did it to accommodate the large plasma screen and to give everyone in the control room a clear view of both the screen and the studio to the right, unobstructed by the ProTools HD system and other technology in the room," Blair explained.
Studio B is also powerfully equipped with key features that include a Yamaha O2R digital recording console and a Pro Tools system. It also has a dedicated recording room. The two sound design suites are identically equipped with Pro Tools DAWs.
Common technological features include an internal high speed network linking the four production rooms, and external ISDN and T1 connections. The two ISDN connections enable the studio to do remote recording at 192K. The studio can accommodate virtually any current audio media including SACD, DVD-A, DVD-V and various MPEG formats.
The two recording studios will also be used by the newly formed Post Groove as mixing suites and as such they allow the company to provide finishing services for virtually any project. "Our resources, which include 5.1, compare favorably with any audio post house in town," observed Joost. "We wanted to offer this service to our clients both because as a convenience and because, we feel, there are creative advantages in mixing in the same environment where you create your music and sound."
The team behind the design includes some of the most accomplished professionals in their fields. Lead architect Bret Thoeny has designed more than 250 recording studios worldwide include Prince's Paisley Park Studios in Minneapolis, Hans Zimmer's Media Ventures and the scoring stages at Todd AO and Sony Pictures. George Augsburger's recent credits include Marcussen Mastering, Los Angeles, Walt Disney Imagineering, Burbank, and Sony Music facilities in New York, Toronto, Mexico City and Seoul.
Peter Barker, formerly of Sony Music Studios oversaw the wiring design and integration of the studios.
The office, conference room and common areas surrounding the studios occupy a flowing, open floorplan and were designed with an eye toward comfort and a sense of fun. Among its notable features are the 18-foot ceilings and the vintage, single-engine, Osprey sea plane suspended above the lounge. The studio also boasts a rambling exterior patio with a gas BBQ and ocean breeze. "In itself," said Blair, "it's worth the price of admission."
Groove Addicts inaugurated its new home with an industry party. The event featured entertainment by British DJ Surreal and Los Angeles Pop Alternative band Powder (whose guitarist Phil X is a Groove Addicts composer). Among the attendees were Stewart Copeland of The Police and Peter DiStefano of Porno for Pyros, each of whom have collaborated with Groove Addicts on commercial projects and Paul Stanley of Kiss.
The evening concluded with a jam session led by Blair on guitar and vocals. Groove Addicts is located at 12211 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90066. For more information, call (310) 572-4646.

Groove Addicts says, "Bring on the Group!" for WODS Boston
Is there strength in numbers? When it comes to imaging an oldies station, Groove Addicts says "bring on the group". This new oldies package from WODS in Boston incorporates music beds with a classic sound that features group vocals to drive home the strong melody logo with Phil Spector "wall-of-sound-type" production. According to Program Director, Greg Strassell, "We rocked the Winter book...just hoping to maintain that in the spring. Groove Addicts became a key component in the redesign and ultimate success of the Oldies 103.3 imaging package."
The WODS Boston package contains a total of 14 cuts . . . 3 Image Ramps 1 Top of the Hour Launch, 7 Shotguns, 1 Transition, News and Weather. When we talk about "strength in numbers", it's not just about group vocals, it's also about the number of mix outs included with this package. Each cut comes with a Full Length Sing, a Bed to Tag Only Sing, a Full Shotgun or Tag, and an A Cappella version. This combination of elements allows stations to create additional ID's, adding to the package's shelf-life and gives a station greater flexibility in their production!
Burning Petals Debuts at NAB
Who Did That Music introduced the Burning Petals Production Library as the newest addition to it's growing catalog at NAB 2002. Who Did That Music VP/GM Cindy Rosmann said, "When we made a decision to expand our catalog we knew we wanted to identify quality material and music producers that do not normally write production music. Richard Jay and his Burning Petals team of writers and producers fit that objective and exemplify some of the best music being produced outside of the states." Richard Jay added, "I spent a long time researching the American market; Obviously I wanted to find a company that really appreciated our catalogue, but also one that had the power to get it to the right people in the States, were efficient, enthusiastic and generally nice people!! A tall order, but in "Who Did That Music ?" I believe I have found it."

Who Did That Music Inks Deal to Distribute Sound Pol and Fontana libraries out Poland in North America.
Fontana
It wasn't enough that our Polish partners knocked us out with their classical collection in Sound Pol. Noooo... They had to shock us into oblivion with sounds so ethereal, intense and mystical that we wondered what they were smokin' when they put this together. Either way, we want some.
Sound Pol
Classical music from Poland? No, it's not a joke. It's right up there with some of the best things to come out of Eastern Europe besides 110 proof vodka. What it is, is one of the hottest collections of classical composers we've ever heard. And you know how impossible to please we are. Look at it this way. If we didn't think it was the best, we wouldn't offer it now. Would we?
KIIS Introduces New ID's From Groove Addicts.
LA based, GROOVE ADDICTS has just completed a new ID package for KIIS-FM. Working closely with KIIS Creative Services Director Jeff Thomas and PD Dan Kieley, the Groove creative team created a CHR sound for the 21st century using ultra effected sweeper ID's that subtly incorporates the heritage KIIS melody logo, without actually singing it. The 20 cut package is also available in the WXKS Boston and Z100 New York logos and includes a series of morning show image ramps done for Rick Dees. All cuts also come with additional production bed only mix outs.
"The Traditional sung jingle just died of old age. Groove Addicts delivered a jingle package for the 21st century that is both fashion and function. When you are trying to musically transition your radio station from a wide variety playlist you need something special. This KIIS package from Groove Addicts is special."
Dan Kieley, KIIS FM Los Angeles
"At the start of this project we knew what we didn't want -- long cheesy, boring, all singing, all dancing jingles. What we got, thanks to Groove Addicts, was a package that added an element of musicality to our branding with key neutral fronts and backs that allowed us to acknowledge our stations heritage without revisiting it."
Jeff Thomas, KIIS FM Los Angeles
